Why this matters

Neon icons dim your footage into shadow and bring glowing sign icons in over it from the bottom, top, left or right, with a neon flicker as each one lands. Your video keeps playing underneath and comes back to full light at the end, so the cut back to it is seamless. Each icon can carry a caption above or below it, icons can be joined by lines or arrows that draw themselves from one to the next, and any icon can be struck out with a red cross drawn one stroke at a time - for a bank that closed or a product that was banned. A trend line can climb across the picture in green when something is going well, or fall in red when it is not. The style reads the narration in English and Czech: it picks icons for the things it names, crosses out what the narration says closed or was lost, and starts the trend line on words like rose or fell. Auto can place neon icons across a whole video, timed to the spoken words.

What changed

A new animation style lights up glowing neon icons over your own footage, each one arriving on the word that names it.

How to use it

  1. Open Animations

Move the playhead to where the narration names something, then click Animations.

  2. Choose Neon icons

Open the Neon icons tab. It fills in the icons the narration under the playhead names.

  3. Adjust the icons

Click an icon to swap it, type a caption, set when it arrives, or press Cross to strike it out. Choose where the icons come in from and whether a line or arrows join them.

  4. Add a trend line

Under Trend line, choose Going up for a green line or Going down for a red one.

  5. Add it

Click Add animation. To place neon icons across the whole video, open the Auto tab and set how many you want.
